how to know when to quit

Throughout life, we all have to walk away from things sometimes.

Whether it’s jobs, relationships or friends oftentimes things come in seasons.

It can be hard to know when it’s time to dig in and do the hard work and when it’s time to walk away.

I’ve done a lot of quitting in my time and I’ve found myself walking away from shitty apartments, jobs and everything in between.

These are the ways I know how to know when to quit.

You’ve Thought About it A lot

I always know it’s time to quit when I can’t stop thinking about it.

Before I left my job I was obsessed with quitting and I thought about it a TON before I finally put in my notice.

I don’t recommend quitting in a blaze of glory.

Losing your temper and finding yourself without a job is not an ideal situation.

However, if you just can’t get the idea of quitting, leaving or starting something new out of your head then it might be time.

If it’s not the right time for you to make a big life change start making a plan to transition into the life that you want.

When I wanted to quit my job I created a target monthly income I needed to be making in my side hustle and started putting money into savings.

I’m a big believer in waiting for the right time to make a big move but even if it’s not the right time you can still start making a plan.

Take Responsibility

It can be really easy to blame your own unhappiness on your job or relationship.

Know what you’re hoping to benefit from leaving and ask yourself if leaving will actually get you the results that we want.

Ultimately you’re responsible for how you feel and if you’re wanting to simply quit to live a happy life you might want to ask yourself why you’re so damn unhappy to begin with.

You don’t want to quit your job only to realize you’re still unhappy and unfulfilled. Spend some time thinking about what is causing you to be unhappy and address those issues before you quit.

This way when you do quit you can waltz right into your new life like a badass queen and take all the happiness you deserve.

Be Brave

This is your one and only life and I don’t believe in wasting time.

If you’re feeling called to do something else you should go do that.

I have wasted so much time in my life being too scared to start something new.

It took me years to get over the fear of being visible and start this blog and my biggest regret is that I didn’t start it sooner.

If a project or job is calling you be fucking brave and get to work.

Putting things off isn’t going to help you in the long run.

Stop researching and daydreaming and just start doing.

I recently went through this all over again when I launched my podcast.

I kept researching “how to start a podcast” and putting it off because I didn’t have the right equipment or I wasn’t sure exactly how to do it.

I finally sucked it up and just launched the sucker and it’s not perfect but I’m making content which is the first step.

If you’re feeling called to write a book, start a podcast or make a new blog quit hesitating and start doing.

Follow Your Gut

You can talk to your friends and family and ask them for advice but ultimately you are the one that knows your exact feelings and circumstances.

I believe that you always know what the best thing to do for you is.

Spend some time checking in with yourself and ask what you really want out of life and how you should go about getting it.

Journaling is a great way to check in with yourself and figure out what it is that you really need to do.

I have some journal prompts you can check out here.

Tap into your gut or higher guidance or whatever it is that you believe in.

You already have all the answers you’re looking for in this article in your heart. Just tune in and listen.

I hope these tips help you figure out how to know when to quit.

I think quitting gets a bad wrap because sometimes you can’t move into the life that you want until you walk away from the things you know aren’t right for you.
