How to Have a Valentine’s Day That Doesn’t Suck When You’re Single and Broke AF

I would encourage you to redesign your holidays.

Why?  So they fit your beliefs and are enjoyable to YOU!

You can make holidays about whatever you want, make your own traditions, and ways to celebrate them.

This is our guide to having a great Valentines Day when you’re single, broke and totally fabulous.

I don’t see Valentine’s Day about being in a relationship or being single.

I’ve made Valentines Day about treating myself and celebrating the amazing life I get to live and being thankful for all the love I have in my life.

Everyone knows cheap chocolate and roses are overrated.

Valentine’s Day is the perfect time to step up your self-care game.

Have a good pamper night and be thankful for what you have.

A lot of posts I read about self-care and beauty talk about going to get a massage, haircut or getting your nails done.

If you have extra cash then heck yes girl! Go for it!

I wish that was my reality but it’s not.

At this point, I’m 30 years old and I’ve ALWAYS lived paycheck to paycheck.

Here are some cheap ass beauty things you can add to your new Valentines Day pamper night tradition if you’re like me and short on cash but want to feel like a pampered queen.

Make Tea

There is something so relaxing and luxurious about a hot beverage.

At night I like to drink peppermint tea.

You can make tea, chai or hot chocolate.

Go for your comforting warm beverage of choice.

If you have anxiety or if it is in the evening skip the caffeine, though.

Take a Bath

Fill up the tub and have a good soak.

My favorite cheap ass bath products are Epsom salts, coconut oil, and bubbles.

Epsom salt is absorbed through your skin and helps alleviate muscle aches, joint pains, and cramps. I like the Dr. Teals Eucalyptus Epsom salt.

You can get a big bag of it on Amazon for around $7.00.

Put in a scoop of Coconut Oil to help moisturize your skin.

My ultimate guilty pleasure is putting on a face mask, hair mask, and watching Netflix on my laptop while I soak in the bath, surrounded by candlelight.

Cheap Ass Face Mask

I usually put this on before I soak and rinse when I get out. This is great when my skin is dull or kind of blah.

Mix together:

  • One tablespoon of coconut oil
  • Two teaspoons of raw honey
  • One teaspoon of lemon juice

Apply to your face and leave on for ten minutes. Wash off with water.

When I’m not in a DIY mood, I reach for Queen Helene face masks which you can get at Walmart or Target.

They’re about $6.00 for a generously sized tube that lasts me forever.

Baking Soda Face Scrub

This is the BEST exfoliation for your skin ever.

I like it better than a lot of the expensive stuff from Sephora.

I always come back to it whenever I feel like my skin needs a serious scrub.

Just make sure you’re gentle.

Mix together:

  • One part Baking Soda
  • Two parts Coconut Oil

Scrub your face and then rinse.

Shiny Hair Conditioning Spray

I spray my hair with apple cider vinegar spray to keep it shiny. Don’t worry, you can’t smell it in your hair!

Mix together in a spray bottle:

  • One part apple cider vinegar
  • One part water

Spray and leave in hair after you get out of the shower

Hair Mask

Warm a bowl of hot water in the microwave.

Place jar of coconut oil in the bowl until the oil becomes liquid.

Distribute through your hair from root to tip.

Leave on as long you can. The longer it sits on your hair the better your results.

Nail Polish

My favorite cheap ass nail polishes are from Sinful Color.

They’re only a couple bucks at Walgreens or CVS.

An added bonus: they’re regularly on sale.

There’s  a huge range of colors and it lasts just as long as a lot of the more expensive nail polish.

I love to find a movie to watch on Netflix and spend a really long time painting my nails while I watch it.

 Lipstick

If you feel like you really want to change your look, but aren’t ready to go for the full-on chop your hair off ritual, go buy a new lipstick color.

Pick a bold color that you usually wouldn’t wear.

I swear it can make you feel like a totally different person.

Wet’n Wild has an entire line of good lipsticks for only a couple bucks each.

Many of the colors are dupes for Mac lipsticks!

CVS and Walgreens regularly have buy-one get one-half off so sales wait for one and save some $$$.

I like their highlighters and eyeshadows too.

DIY Pillow Spray

Combine in a small spray bottle:

  • 1 part witch hazel
  • 3 parts water
  • To preference: drops of lavender essential oils

Spray on your pillow and sheets before you climb into bed

The essential oil and water will not mix together which is why you need to include the witch hazel.

I read online you can use vodka instead of witch hazel but haven’t tried it.

When picking out essential oils try to pick out high-quality oils that are listed as 100% pure essential oil like these.

Gratitude

People spend a lot of time on Valentine’s Day focusing on what they don’t have.

Make Valentine’s Day a time to celebrate the love and good fortune you do have.

Journal all the things you have right now that you are thankful for.

Love Letters

Make a list of all the people that you love.

Write them a note listing the things you love about them and send them in the mail.

Who doesn’t like to get a nice letter in the mail! This is a nice way to celebrate the love you already have.
