Sometimes I get in the mood to change my whole damn life. I’ve done some pretty extreme versions of this like getting rid of all my possessions and moving across the country or traveling fulltime and living in a tent. These days I like to stay rooted but I still get the urge to shake things up. If you want your life to be different you have to make changes to what you are already doing. If you’re looking for some easy ways to change your life try the tips below to shake things up while still keeping your job and all your possessions 🙂
Make New Friends
If you want your life to feel different try hanging out with new people. Trust me, I know how hard it is to make friends as an adult. It takes a lot of time to build relationships and meeting new people can be especially challenging if you’re not in school anymore. Check out meetup.com and see if there are any groups near you that you might be interested in. Google your city and see if they have any events. Our city has a local kickball league that is a great way to meet new people. It can be hard to find new friends but if you can find a solid group of people to add to your life
Try Something New
Finding a new activity or hobby can be a great way to shake things up. I recently tried pole dancing but that’s not for everyone. Try Zumba, Horseback Riding or whatever perks you up. I would really like to take tennis lessons or learn a new language. Learning something new can put you outside your comfort zone but I always feel like a badass whenever I make myself do it. I walked out of my pole dancing class feeling like a bad ass queen. If there’s an activity you’ve been wanting to try stop putting it off and go signup right now.
Change Your Routine
If you’re stuck in a rut see what opportunities you can find to change up your day to day. Whenever I want to feel like a new person I start getting up at 5:30 am to go running. Try getting up an hour earlier to exercise or go to the gym. Drive to work on a different route. Go to a new coffee shop. Grocery shop somewhere you’ve never shopped before. Try a new food you’ve never had. Take this week to see what changes you can make to refresh your daily routine.
Declutter
I got all Konmari on my house a couple weeks ago and it felt great. The Konmari method has you go through every single thing in your house and get rid of everything that doesn’t spark joy. I find decluttering to be really therapeutic. Go through your house and get rid of any extra junk you have that you’ve been holding onto. This is a great time to get rid of anything that is partially broken or not working properly anymore. I once held onto a toaster that only half worked for two years instead of tossing it and getting a new one. Life is too short for burnt toast. If you have stuff that is old or busted and doesn’t serve you anymore pass it on to someone that might need it.
Get Inspired
When my life is starting to feel boring AF I like to read some inspiring books. I have been on a big Gary Vaynerchuck kick lately. If entrepreneurship isn’t your jam check out You Are a Badass: How to Stop Doubting Your Greatness and Start Living an Awesome Life or The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck: A Counterintuitive Approach to Living a Good Life. Nothing makes me feel more badass than multitasking so I usually listen to audiobooks while I clean and do chores. My new favorite morning ritual is listening to audiobooks in the morning while I drink coffee and update my social media. I also like to go on YouTube for inspiration. I have a whole post of inspiring videos you can check out here. I’m a big fan of Casey Neistat.
Makeover
Whenever I want to feel like a different person I wear a really dark lipstick. Put on a bold lip color that you wouldn’t usually wear and tell me you don’t feel transformed. I like to get the cheap lipsticks from WetnWild at the drugstore. If lipstick is not your thing try getting a statement accessory that makes you feel like a badass. I buy all my bags and accessories on Poshmark (an app where you can buy and sell used clothing items easily). It’s a great way to get some quality pieces without paying full price or having to wait for a sale.
I hope these tips help you shake off whatever funk you’re in. You never know what life has in store for you. Keep making changes and try new things and see where it takes you. If you’re interested in mental health resources I have a ton of articles about depression and anxiety you can check out.
